You know you're a parent when...

You know you're a parent when you read something hilarious involving children (and poop) and you immediately wonder if you weren't a parent would you still think it was funny...  Luckily for me, I have a friend who does not have children who can be trusted on such occasions!  (And yes, it was funny!)  Check it out here if you want a chuckle!

Random Thought for today

I hate when the decision in the morning NOT to shave my legs comes back that evening to bite me in the ass...

* My apologies to those at the gym who had to endure.

Distractions of frivolity

I am in need of a moment to blow of some steam and avoid sticking my nose into someone else's business so I thought I would do this fun version of frivolity I saw on Kerstin's blog last week. It is an expanded version of "put and X if you've done it or O if you haven't" exercise... Enjoy!

(X) Been to Canada- Clint and I went to Langley, British Columbia in 2001 to ski at Big White with some friends. It was also the trip where I figured out I was pregnant with Erin - and promply freaked out at all the hot tubing and drinking we'd been doing. She turned out ok, though!
(X) Been to Mexico- Clint and I went to Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon and we've been to several port cities on the couple of cruises we've done.
(O) Been to Florida- hmmm... someday!
(O) Been to Hawaii- I think I'm the only one in my family who hasn't been yet!
(X) Gone on a blind date- Yes, almost too many! The worst was the freak who took me to the Zoo because he liked to watch the animals MATE and the best was Clint who ended up being my soul mate and hubby!
(X) Skipped school- Yes and the most memorable was the first time - skipped sewing to walk around the neighborhoods in 9th grade. I thought it was boring at the time but I got the hang of it in HS
(X) Watched someone die- I watched my Grandpa die and it was both the saddest and the best thing I've ever witnessed.
(X) Been on a plane- yes, lots. I have even logged my own flight time behind the stick and soloed when I was in college and still thought I wanted to be a pilot when I grew up. Someday I will finish my pilot's license training.
(X) Been on a helicopter- I got to go up with one of the instructors when I worked at the airport at a flight school. I got to actually try flying for a minute and it was WAY complicated!
(X) Been lost- Most memorable was when we took a weird pit stop on a road trip back from California for breakfast with my family. I don't know how we did it but we ended up driving around new housing developments around Las Vegas for like an hour trying to get back on the freeway. Clint was less than thrilled....
(O) Been an extra in a film
(O) Been to a TV show taping- Do people really do this?
(X) Visited Washington, DC- Been there several times and it is beautiful! First time was the summer between my Junior and Senior year when I was a VICA state officer and we went back for training. I got to go a couple more times for work for training. The last time I got to take Clint with me and visit family in Baltimore.
(X) Traveled by San Francisco trolley- we did this the day we flew to SF just for the day when Amy was a travel agent. Good times!
(X) Traveled to Europe- 2 weeks in Germany with Clint and Erin. I am sad Erin doesn't remember any of it because she was too young. Next stop: Italy
(O) Traveled to Asia- I've never even thought about going!
(O) Went to the top of the World Trade Center -nope and now I never will....
(O) Been to Jamaica-not yet!
(X) Swam in the ocean- I've done it but I don't love the salt water. Give me a lake any day!
(X) Cried yourself to sleep- more than once
(X) Played cops and robbers- I'm thinking we did when we were kids but I can't remember for sure. It sucks getting old!
(X) Recently colored with crayons- of course, I am a Mom!
(X) Skipped a final exam- My last semester of school I didn't finish any of my classes because I had a pseudo tumor cerebri.... (How's that for the new graduate of Medical Terminology?)
(X) Sang Karaoke- More than I should have back in the bar hopping days of my youth!
(X) Watched the birth of a child- Does the video in the birthing classes count because that's the only one I've seen. I even refused the mirror when offered at Erin's birth... ick!
(X) Paid for a meal with coins only- didn't everyone when they were teenagers? Back when you used to charge your friends a dollar for gas money if you drove to hang out!
(O) Been to the top of the St. Louis Arch -hmmm... another city I've never had the desire to visit
(X) Done something you told yourself you wouldn't-who hasn't? I just stopped making insane rules for myself and now I can do whatever I want without guilt.
(X) Made prank phone calls- another rite of adolescence!
(O) Been down Bourbon Street in New Orleans - no, and I missed my chance when my friend from college lived in New Orleans and offered a free place to stay for MartiGra!
(X) Laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose-I wish I could forget this one!
(X) Caught a snowflake on your tongue
(X) Danced in the rain - I love rain and I love dancing in it! Only Erin will do it with me...
(X) Written a letter to Santa Claus- like every year baby!!
(X) Been kissed under the mistletoe-
(X) Watched the sunrise with someone- I've even done this in the last month with Clint. He didn't want me to miss the fantastic clouds that looked like nothing too special or out of the ordinary to my non-artist's eye.
(X) Blown bubbles - sometimes I even went over the line and wouldn't share with Erin and they were her bubbles. I love to blow bubbles!
(X) Gone ice-skating - I used to be really good and the last time we went it was not pretty...
(X) Gone to the movies in 2009- I LOVE Movies although since Erin we see more kid movies in the theater than "grown up" ones.
(O) Been deep sea fishing- that is what Clint does while Erin and I play on the beach in the sand! We did go whale and dolphin sighting the last time we were in SoCal!
(O) Driven across the United States- no but I would love to! I love road trips!!!
(O) Been in a hot air balloon
(O) Been sky diving - now why would I jump out of a perfectly good airplane that with my limited flight experience I could land even without a working engine?
(X) Gone snowmobiling- I am going to count the trip where we went to someones cabin (I think it was Slims?) and had to snowmobile in. Otherwise, nope...
(O) Lived in more than one country - but I sure would like to!!
(X) Lay down outside at night and admired the stars while listening to the crickets - I do this all the time in the summer!
(X) Seen a falling star and made a wish
(X) Seen the Old Faithful Geyser- I heard it isn't so faithful anymore... The best time we were in Yellowstone was when Dad locked the keys in the car when we went to see the fishing bridge
(O) Seen the Statue of Liberty- someday I will make it to New York - I used to think I wanted to live there but not anymore
(O) Gone to the top of Seattle Space Needle - maybe when we get out to see Clint's sister who lives there
(X) Been on a cruise-Best vacation for the money... especially when you have a hubby who eats like Clint!
(X) Traveled by train - the only way we got around in Germany
(X) Traveled by motorcycle - I had a motorcycle license before my driver's license!
(X) Been horse back riding- I have many memories - some fonder than others - of riding my uncle's horses growing up. And when Amy and I did it in Mexico on our first cruise together!
(O) Been to Disneyland, Disney World, and Japan's Disneyland - 1 out of 3.... and that was enough!
(X) Been pulled over by a police officer -Let's not talk about this... Clint still gets mad that I haven't "grown out of" my speeding habits.
(X) Gotten a ticket- unfortunately I never fully perfected the art of talking my way out of them
(X) Truly believe in the power of prayer - there are many forms of prayer and yes...
(O) Been in a rain forest - I hope I get a chance before they are all gone
(X) Seen whales in the ocean - it was SO cool!!
(O) Been to Niagara Falls - don't know that I want to but at the same time seems kinda cool
(O) Ridden on an elephant - it doesn't look comfortable
(O) Swam with dolphins
(X) Been to the Olympics- I lived in Salt Lake in 2002 but didn't get to see any of the official events. We hung out downtown at the medals plaza one night so I'm counting it!
(X) Sat on a jury- yes and I kind of liked it... got to convict a repeat sex offender!
(O) Learned to juggle - not coordinated enough!
(O) Walked on the Great Wall of China-eeeehh
(O) Saw a glacier- no and again, I hope I do someday before they are all gone
(O) Been spinnaker flying- What is that?
(O) Been water-skiing- I think I tried once and was never coordinated enough.
(X) Been snow-skiing- Love Skiing but haven't been in years
(O) Been to Westminster Abbey
(O) Been to the Louvre - I would love to go one day
(O) Swam in the Mediterranean
(O) Been to a Major League Baseball game- Just say NO to baseball
(X) Been to a National Football League game- Saw my Bear's in Denver playing Clint's Bronco's - it was so cold but so fun!
(X) Been to a Professional Soccer game- once a friend gave us his tickets to Real Salt Lake. I was lost the whole time but Clint loved it.

Split decision

Thanks to the two of you who voted... (what about the rest of my normal visitors??) The decision was split about moving Erin's little blog area to her own website. I decided to be the tie breaker and just move it down lower on the page. I don't want to have to make all you readers have to log in and manage some crazy list of "trusted" emails so freaks aren't stalking my daughter on her own site. So, if you're a fan of Erinisms, look for the new location about halfway down the left pane.

Quote of the Day and other random thoughts

THE quote of the day.... "Bryce, please don't hump the banister!" I swear, Clint and Bryce are twins who just happen to have been born to different mothers several years apart... We are all still coughing and dealing with transient sore throats but are feeling a bit better and enjoying a long weekend with Clint's Dad visiting from Kansas... I am hard at work writing the novel in all my free time (ha! what free time!) so the blog is suffering... At some point I swear there will be more photos posted here! I don't know when but some day soon... Erin goes back to school tomorrow after what feels like 6 months of being off track and I don't know who is more excited; her or me! And watch out world - my Mom has a blog now! It is now a proven fact that you're never too old to be a blogger!

Tagged!

Ok, Kerstin tagged me first but Amber also did! Apparently it is the blog form of an email "answer these questions" and I'm always up for those so here goes!

Six Question Tag

1. Six places I go over and over: work, Erin's school, Erin's dance studio, Smiths, our favorite Mexican place and our favorite sushi place.

2. Six people who email me regularly: Clint, Denice, Amber, Mom, Gram, Becky (of course, this list would be MUCH different if it were people who IM me regularly....)

3. Six of my favorite places to eat: Aculpulco, Fortune Cookie, Ruby Tuesday, Olive Garden, Soup Kitchen, Marketstreet

4. Six places I would rather be right now: on the couch watching a movie, reading a book, Italy, the beach, Mexico, outside (if only it were warmer - the moon is so beautiful tonight!)

5. Six people I think will respond (aka, the TAG): I tag everyone I know who blogs and hasn't already tagged... which is Adrian, Christauna, Angel and TipTopTux

6. Six TV shows I watch: this is a tough one for me as I am not a TV watcher! BattleStar Galactica (which hasn't had new episodes for MONTHS!), UFC (Clint's favorite), Spongebob (Erin's favorite), Heros (but only on DVD so far), I want THAT! on FLN. I know that's not 6 but seriously can't think of anything else!

Six Quirks About Me:

1. I am a freak about saving things. Bills I paid from our first apartment (15 years ago!), Birthday cards, wedding invitations, extra buttons from new clothes, receipts, every school paper that Erin has brought home starting with pre-school when she was 4, clothes that are out of style and I couldn't wear again if I tried... You name it, I save it. When Clint and I got married he used to make me go through the closet once a year and get rid of at least a stack of things I hadn't worn that year. I am not such a freak about saving clothes and shoes now because of it (unless there's sentimental value like my VICA jackets and my letter sweater or the dress I wore to graduation-I've only been out of school for going on 2 decades!) but everything else I still collect. I have boxes labeled "scrapbook stuff" that I think might be fun to look back on someday. It has treasures like movie tickets to every movie we've ever been to, airline ticket stubs, brochures for places we've traveled to, stuff like that. And since these things are in a box with a girlie label like scrap booking Clint won't make me throw it away...

2. I love the Moon... I always know what phase of the moon we are in and where to look in the sky for it. And I always take a minute to moon gaze when I'm outside to feed Sasha before I go to bed. It calms me for some reason I can't explain. This is true even when the moon is still "up" in the daytime. I'm a moon girl!

3. I always snooze the alarm clock in the morning for at least a half an hour and more like an hour lately. I physically cannot just hear the alarm, turn it off and get out of bed. I instead have to decide when the latest I really have to be up is and then set the alarm for an hour earlier so I can have my snooze time. It's like somehow I'm tricking myself into thinking that I slept longer and got an extra hour or something. And when I actually get up after only a half hour of snoozing instead of the alloted hour? I pat myself on the back that I got up "early". Can't explain that one, either...

4. I am an obsessive planner... I plan everything down to the minutia. Doesn't matter what we are doing, I'm over planning it and over packing things to take with us. Clint doesn't plan anything, just gets an idea in his head and starts off knowing that he can just figure it out along the way. I'm the girl who packs a rain coat just in case we get rained on and then cart it around all day without needing it. Luckily we balance each other out!

5. I type everything... There's lots of instances with my job where I can cut and paste commands that I'm doing over and over on the system; or where most of the command is the same as the next line and I could just issue a 2-character command to bring up the line to change the one or two characters. But, I can't do it. I have to type out everything and I mean everything! Drives people at work crazy to watch me but I type so fast that I can still get it done before they could if we were racing!

6. I am so easily distracted from one thing to the next - especially around the house. I will start something and walk into the next room on some part of that task and find something else that I think "oh, I should do that while I'm here" and stop what I was originally doing to start the next thing. After doing that over and over I usually stumble across the first thing that I started (where I left off) and think "oh yeah, I need to finish that" and stop what I am currently doing to continue. Like a viscous cycle over and over. At the end of a Saturday spent at home and left to my own devices I've done a TON of stuff but not completed a single thing... and I'm exhausted. And then Clint will come in and say "what have you been doing all day?" because there is no clear evidence of what I did! I hate this about myself...

And a bonus quirk I just thought of... I always have a book hidden somewhere on my person (usually in my purse!) You never know when you're going to have 5 minutes you could be reading after all!

Musical Fortune

I got this off a blog I read and thought it was pretty cool. The idea is that you can tell lots of things about a person by the music they listen to. Kind of had a fun time doing it while I took a little break from the daily grind today for some random silliness...

1. Put Your iPod/iTunes/music player/cd player/radio on shuffle.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. Write that song name down. (of course, I added some comments as well!)

WHAT BEST DESCRIBES YOUR PERSONALITY?
Good Times Roll – The Cars
Oh, wow, off to a really good start! I’m all about that!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN A GUY/GIRL?
I Don’t Want Your Love – Duran Duran
That’s because I’m already taken by the best guy on the PLANET!

HOW DO YOU FEEL TODAY?
Rescue Me - Madonna
Oh yeah, today is definitely one of those days…

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE?
God Help the Outcast – Little Mermaid Soundtrack
Look – the tree-hugger and environmental activist in me is vindicated!

WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO?
Disenchanted – My Chemical Romance
How can my iPod know this about me? I wouldn’t call it my motto though…

WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS THINK OF YOU?
Private Investigations – Dire Straits
What does that mean?!? And more importantly, when did Dire Straits get in here?

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR PARENTS?
Next 2 You - Buckcherry
This is a new addition to the library and I have to admit I had to play it to see if it fit. Kinda does!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT FREQUENTLY?
Every Minute Every Day - Scorpions
Hmmm… alluding to my OCD perhaps?

WHAT IS 2+2?
The Greater Good – Nine Inch Nails
No comment.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR BEST FRIEND?
Crown of Thorns – Corrosion of Conformity
Hmmm… I don’t think I agree.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PERSON YOU LIKE?
Whores – Jane’s Addiction
What is this, a high school quiz? I’m married already!

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE STORY?
When I See You Smile – Bad English
“Sometimes I wonder how I’d make it through… But then I see you smile and Everything’s all right“ pretty dang fitting!

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
Born To Move – Creedence Clearwater Revival
Just as long as we are talking “move your body” or “move a Nation” and not physically move my residence! I’m done with that insanity.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU SEE THE PERSON YOU LIKE?
We’re Forgiven – The Calling
“Well I’d like to think the world hasn’t seen that all the best is still to come” Oh yeah, watch out world, Clint and I will surprise you!!

WHAT DO YOUR PARENTS THINK OF YOU?
Man of the Hour – Pearl Jam
I always KNEW I was the favorite child!! : )

WHAT WILL YOU DANCE TO AT YOUR WEDDING Anniversary?
You Can Do It – No Doubt
More like what I’ll be saying to Clint to get him to dance!

WHAT WILL THEY PLAY AT YOUR FUNERAL?
Been It – The Cardigans
Yeah, the rate I’m going…

WHAT IS YOUR HOBBY/INTEREST?
A classical piano track performed by Charles Rosen
I do love classical piano and miss playing… but not very accurate right now

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SECRET?
Got The Life - Korn
Shhhh, don’t tell anyone!

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR FRIENDS?
Serenade #10 in B Flat - Mozart
Aww… Pretty!

Terra's alter-ego

Occasionally some of the silliness you find on the internet can be a bit entertaining and hey, even a bit accurate. Take the quiz and find your alter ego. I thought I would be surprised but I answered the questions honestly and it came out pretty accurate... Anyone who knows me will find that it is no surprise who I matched up with.

Birth of (another) blog

Well, I guess it is time to join the land of the blogger with a site dedicated to the family. Because I am so OCD, I will probably try and go back to things that we've done this year because it won't seem complete without content but I'm going to try and refrain and just start from the last "holiday" and go from there.... Welcome and enjoy but please be patient as I try to get the layout right!! LOL
